Head of Marketing

apartmentJobs at Talental placeCiudad de México - CDMX calendar_month

What's in it for you

You'd be the second-most senior person at Canva Mexico. That's real ownership over how one of the world's most recognizable brands shows up in a market that's still in its early innings.

Your job is to figure out how to grow from a foundation of massive brand love. That's a harder problem than running campaigns on a proven playbook, and a more interesting one.

You'd own a 7-figure marketing budget, a growing local team, and the strategy that connects them. The LatAm marketing team is being built right now. For the right person, being at the beginning of that is the opportunity.

The LatAm marketing head is currently covering Mexico, Brazil, and new expansion markets simultaneously. Mexico needs a senior marketer who can own strategy end-to-end, work alongside the Country Manager as a thought partner, and start building the team that will carry this market forward.

This isn't a backfill. It's the foundational hire.

What success looks like

In the first three months: you've done the work to understand the Mexico market deeply. You've built a clear point of view on what marketing should prioritize and why, backed by data and a real understanding of local consumer behavior. You've worked with the Country Manager to stress-test it.

You know what you're going to do and what you're not.

In the next three months: you're executing. You've pulled together the right resources (internal team, global marketing, external agencies), you're delivering against a plan you can defend with data, and you're building a team that sets a high bar.

What you'll do
  • Set and own the marketing strategy for Mexico, grounded in local insight and aligned to country growth goals
  • Lead full-funnel marketing execution across brand, campaigns, social, community, partnerships, and events, with clear prioritization at every step
  • Own the marketing budget, allocate investment across channels, track ROI, and show how spend drives business outcomes
  • Act as a strategic thought partner to the Country Manager, shaping priorities and translating global strategy into locally effective work
  • Build, lead, and develop the local marketing team
  • Work with global and regional teams to leverage existing resources instead of reinventing the wheel
You're probably a fit if you have
  • 8+ years in marketing, with at least 3-4 in a senior role owning a country or regional mandate, a team, and a budget
  • A real spike in brand marketing: you've owned brand strategy and execution, you have opinions on creative quality and cultural relevance, and you can work effectively with creative people
  • Consumer tech or B2C background. You think in terms of how marketing moves real people, not how to generate enterprise leads
  • Actively curious about AI and experimenting with it in your marketing workflow. Bonus if you can articulate how it changes team structure and operations
  • Strong data literacy: you can structure your own data asks, build a business case, model ROI, and defend your priorities to leadership without needing someone to feed you the right numbers
  • Deep Mexico market knowledge: consumer behavior, media habits, cultural nuance
  • Owned and deployed 7-figure+ marketing budgets with hands-on accountability
  • Managed and developed a marketing team directly
  • Experience operating inside a global company. You know when to use the central playbook and when to push for something different locally

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience at a global consumer tech company (Uber, Meta, Google, Rappi, Mercado Libre, or similar)
  • Startup or early-stage experience that made you scrappy and resourceful

Team and reporting

You'd report to the Head of Marketing for LatAm, with a dotted line to the Country Manager for Mexico. The local team today is around 4-6 people, expected to grow to 10-15 (a mix of direct reports, embedded resources, and contractors). Performance marketing has a dedicated resource in Mexico within a regional team structure.

You'd also manage relationships with creative, media, and production agencies.
